Here is how the four most common worktop materials compare in real kitchens, not showrooms.
Quartz and granite
Quartz is non-porous, consistent in pattern and needs no sealing — typically £350–£550 per linear metre installed. Granite is natural, slightly more variable and needs occasional sealing, at a similar price point.
Laminate and solid wood
Modern laminates are far better than their reputation and cost a fraction of stone. Solid oak or walnut looks superb but needs oiling and does not love standing water around sinks.
Templating and lead times
